The Main Garden

In the Main Garden there is a selection of vegetables, herbs and flowers - some older varieties and some new. The garden differs from season to season and from year to year and is dependent on many factors. Most years visitors can see traditional techniques from earlier times in use, such as raised beds and hot beds, as well as some that are making a comeback like composting, mulching and companion planting. Both here and in the kitchen garden there are herbs for culinary and medicinal use. In the main garden we also grow salad greens and vegetables for use in the Tearoom, and an interesting mixture of other plants. Around the Museum site are several old-fashioned shrubs and hardy perennials which have been collected from old Cole Harbour gardens.
